Need some motivation? Here’s a custom-made poster…by me. Granted, I can’t do justice for the one post I neglected to make in the past few days, but it’ll have to do. After all, we’re aiming for a change here, and therefore I guess this is great.
In addition, please check the “Links” page. I’ve added a link to “Johnny’s Angels,” a group of Johnny Depp fans who are raising money to help children with severe sickness. Do what you can!
I was thinking about how our generation relies largely on internet use. Quite frankly, this is a problem for adults: their kids could get carpal tunnel syndrome or bad eyesight.
But I think the bigger problem is: why aren’t there that many teens online that can help save our environment? Most teens are into shopping or beauty – not a problem, I am too. But the issue is, not all of them make an effort to save their home: Earth.
That’s why, in an effort to change this unfortunate fact, this blog was created. A change – an ever present change would be necessary amongst our people in order to save our world.
I thought I was the only one out there doing something about this problem – at least, the only person of my age. I see now that I was wrong, obviously because I saw others who were presumably my age (e.g. by “internet speak”) doing what they could to save our environment. Connect2earth, for example, is a great “social networking” site, the only difference between it and other, slightly dangerous sites such as MySpace, is that it is a place for people to discuss news events related to our world – environment, poverty – in addition to ways people can help change the many problems faced to us by things such as plastic.
So you see, it isn’t just one person, it isn’t just one age group, it’s everyone. And by that I mean children, parents, newlyweds, teens, college kids, you name it. And it isn’t uncool. I’m in that environment where I thought this kind of thing was uncool, until I saw some of the people around me getting seriously impacted by the ruined environment. A couple of my teachers, my close friends, my cousins, my family – all of us were getting affected, some more, some less.
And that, my friends is all we need to know about where to set our priorities.
In order to help get more activity, I have posted up a new page on the blog: links. This page is actually filled with a ton of great sites, and you should head right over there and check them out. If you have a website, podcast, video, blog, etc. – ANYTHING that can help – go right over there and post a comment with information regarding how I can access it. I will then review it (for age-friendliness purposes) and post it up.
I am also in the process of getting a voice-mail box for this blog, sponsored by Snapvine. If you have any questions regarding this blog, how you can help the world, or anything else, please call the number on the voice-mail box and leave a message. I will type a response for you on this blog.
Thank you for doing what you can to contribute to saving our world, our environment.
It’s been over five billion years since the Earth was formed – and yet, it is today, in this year, in this new century, started no more than eight years ago, that we are abusing our world, our home.
Nature has been moving around us and look at how it’s resulted. Turtles, as seen in the picture, are accidentally eating our man-made goods. Dolphins are getting their trapped in old nets. Penguins are getting stuck in our coke-pack-plastic-holders. What man created as an advancement in technology really brought us to this conclusion: technology = the end.
And this isn’t to say that technology is bad, no, because, in fact, we can use our modern-day technology to examine our mistakes in harming the environment. We’ve already identified that certain types of plastic – types 3, 6, and 7 – contain the harmful substance “bisphenol” and we’ve developed biodegradable goods.
For many students – teens, actually, like myself – the idea of saving the world coming before your next manicure is extremely terrifying. But think about this: would you rather live in a clean, safe environment, where you’ll probably not be in danger of dying before that next manicure? Or would you rather live in a filthy place filled with old plastic and other unnecessary items that are not biodegradable that could potentially put you – and the rest of the world – in danger of death and extremely polluted air, a place where manicures are out of the question? Exactly.
You see, the idea of saving the world sounds like a huge concept, but really, it’s not. The best example of this is Mohandas Gandhi’s quote: “We must become the change we wish to see in the world.”
Do what you can:
1. Start by using cleaner plastic – and reuse. For example, when buying any drink that comes in a plastic bottle, check to see that the bottle does not have a number 3, 6, or 7 on the bottom. If it does, don’t buy it. In addition, once you’re done drinking, although recycling is a great idea, keep in mind that animals can always get to the plastic. Reuse your bottle for that basketball game or for some other activity.
2. Pick up that litter. Although it seems like a tedious job, just doing the simplest of things by going through your neighborhood and picking up trash that has gone astray would be beneficial to the environment. If you want to get really into it, go through more than just your neighborhood. You can get together with several people to go and clean an entire road, possibly a portion of a highway, and you’ll be doing a lot for the world.
3. Spread the news. The last short suggestion for the day is to spread the news about environmental friendliness: how people can help, where people can help, who to contact, and how to get a cleaner world. Start a blog like this one, create videos on youtube, make graphics, write a newsletter, write to the editorials, promote blogs like this one, and do whatever else it takes to get the message spread throughout the world.
